WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOUR HOUSE IS BEING PAINTED
1 – The painters will begin by protecting your floors and vents. They will tape large rolls of paper to the floors to prevent mess and they will turn off your HVAC system (when possible). They will cover return and supply vents to prevent dust from getting into your HVAC. Once the house is fully protected, they move on to prep work. This is often the most tedious part of the job.
2 – You can look forward to ladders and men everywhere! They are very focused workers and move back and forth between projects in different parts of the house while waiting for others to dry, get sanded, or retouched.
If you know you will need a specific room or space for a period of time and do not want to be disturbed. Please communicate that to the workers. (ex: you want your bathroom all to yourself for your shower!)
3 – They work long hours, typically preferring to get to the house by 8am and want to work until 6pm (or later). Painters will often even work weekends if you are open to it.
4 – In addition to paint, some of the projects require replacing or repairing wood trim. This adds to the chaos with saws and sawdust. If you have a sensitivity to it, please communicate directly to me. In most cases we can create a “dust room” of plastic to keep the particulates contained to the work area.
5 – Clean up! Once the work is completed, the guys will remove all plastic barriers and tape. They will take their trash with them and leave the space as they found it. If you prefer the job to be cleaned up at the end of every day, this can be arranged.
